A bit of history and ceremonial grade roots…

Cacao beans come from a tree that exist for several million years, native to the Amazon. It was and is used by many ancient civilizations, primarily in Central America where it was traditionally grown by the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs to celebrate and as a connection to the gods to provide physical, emotional and spiritual healing. For example, it was a tool for conflict resolution or physical recovery needs.

Cacao was named from the Nahuatl "cacahuatl" and likely derived from the Mayan "kakaw" until the Swedish Carl von Linné named it "Theobroma cacao" in 1753 meaning literally "Food of the Gods" in reference of its sacred heritage and religious ceremonies.

Cacao was very valuable!
Throughout pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, the beans were commonly used as a currency. For instance, Aztec market prices included a turkey for 100 cacao beans and a fresh avocado for three beans.

Also, it was reserved for the nobility and consumed as a beverage, mixed with water, chili, and annatto to create a frothy, red concoction. So it is a privilege to have access to it today...

Cacao is an excellent source of many nutrients (iron, magnesium, calcium...), antioxidants, well-being psychoactive substances (theobromine, anandamide, phenetylamine, serotonin...).

Together, they support your cardiovascular, immune, nervous, digestive and muscular systems. And more than anything, makes a powerful medicine for the heart!

This magical blend, when cultivated and crafted consciously under its purest form and with a certain respect for nature and spirits, is also known as "ceremonial grade cacao" in Europe. It is about honoring and spreading its heritage throughout the whole process, involving in sourcing premium quality cacao beans highestly packed in benefits, until you can benefit from it. Ultimately, it is a tool that can help you with many different aspects regarding your personal healing practices and spiritual journey.

What makes Râ cacao special and unique ?

As of today, we have 2 types of ceremonial cacao. They are from the two origins of Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Both comes as a pure product, that is to say 100% cacao, without sugar or additives. They both are sustainable using natural energy as much as possible such as beans sun-drying. They both are ethical with lots of respect and commitment towards the farmers. They both are hand-crafted tree-to-block. Finally, we infuse all our love in every block, clear with smoke magic & channel Reiki upon requests!

♡ We make the Costa Rican ceremonial grade cacao straight from beans that we import from an agroforestry & organic certified farm of the Caribbean's coast, in the Talamanca region. The cacao beans are growing in an indigenous territory where lots of cacao-related artefacts have been found, demonstrating the deep sacred connection to cacao in this land. It's a very special cacao beans sourcing that can't be found anywhere else under ceremonial cacao up until now! The cacao beans are minimally processed in our ecovillage of the Netherlands such as slow-roasted at low temperature, to preserve all the benefits, yet awaken PEA (feel-good hormone) needing heat to be processed in our bodies. The country of Costa Rica is known for its heart opening enhancement, which strenghten the powers of cacao, as well as a particular balance between the feminine and the masculine. The Costa Rican ceremonial cacao taste soft yet feels very powerful, and particularly grounding yet pretty bouncy and playful, revealing your inner child. It has a nutty and tropical fruit aromas with a floral sweetness.

♡ The Guatemalan ceremonial grade cacao find its origin in the region of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala! A beautiful agroforestry system carried by a inspiring regenerative center project, empowering the local community through artisanal production, agroecology and education. The beans are fermented and dried following the Mayan Nawales energies, so each batch holds a specific power. All cacao byproducts are conserved to honor and enjoy all possible cacao earth gifts. The roasting is handled by Maya Q'eqchi women, following the traditional ancient ways using a sacred fire. They peel each bean by hand and prepare all blocks with lots of love and wisdom, before they get to us in the Netherlands so we can spread it your way! Guatemala is known for its strong indigenous heritage remaining very present, which you can feel by drinking this ceremonial grade cacao, as well as a clear feminine presence and a community energy. It has notes of warm vanilla and bright citrus, overall bold and earthy taste.

If that's hard to make a choice, I get it! ;)

Where does the name Râ cacao come from ?

One morning, our founder made herself a cup of cacao on the 12th of March 2023. She had a magical experience where Râ, the Egyptian sun god, came to her ! It's the second part of her name : “Clara”. Inside her cup, the cacao outlined a tiger's eye, which closely resembles the symbol of sun and light in Egyptian culture, an eye.

That very morning, the cacao that she decided to offer to the world took on its full meaning. Cacao lives in the shadows, in the darkness. And we especially focus on this aspect when we work with it.

However, it really needs sun to grow! (Change the word cacao for human beings working on their wounds & traumas, and it makes as much sense, actually). This is why the vocation of Râ cacao is to help you find your rays, those which are warm and which allow you to shine the best version of yourself. A gift from nature which will be a guide to discover and reconnect with your solar & loving essence ♡

If cacao calls you, don't hesitate to treat yourself with a try-out or a deep dive into Râ's rays !

Testimoniâls

My experience with Râ cacao was truly magical. The first ceremony I had allowed me to go deep into my heart and explore its infinite richness. With an inexplicable love and gentle presence, I felt I had one of the closest experiences to my truth. Through this connection, a story came out of my hands with a few drops from my eyes. I am deeply grateful to have had this experience and to have had such beautiful interactions with Clara which warmed my heart, made me smile so many times :) so much love and respect for the ground energies yet elevating and opening of Cla & Râ.

This cacao was so nourishing and delicious. I hadn't prepared cacao like this before so it was my first time really shaving it down from its purest form. It was really nice to receive an ebook introducing the cacao and preparation, it made feel like I wanted the whole process to be intentional. The cacao melted like butter. I added coconut milk, agave and cinnamon. It thickened beautifully as I cooked slowly on a low fire and tasted sooo good. Also really loved all the little personal touches from the carvings on the cacao to the sweet wrapping. You feel lots of love went into this. Looking forward to have some more.
